Two Poems by Arthur Symons , opus 4

by Wintter Haynes Watts (1884 - 1962)

?. During music  [sung text not yet checked]

Language: English
The music had the heat of blood,
  A passion that no words can reach;
We sat together, and understood
  Our own heart's speech.

We had no need of word or sign,
  The music spoke for us, and said
All that her eyes could read in mine
  Or mine in hers had read.

Text Authorship:

  • by Arthur Symons (1865 - 1945), "During music", appears in Silhouettes, first published 1892

1. A hope
 (Sung text)

Language: English
Though the darksome night is round me,
  Well I know the morn will come,
And with morning, oh! the sunshine
  That will flood my home!

Though to-night I lie here, lonely,
  Maybe he (she) will be a part
Of the coming of the morning,
  And make glad again my heart!

3. The Stairway  [sung text not yet checked]

Language: English
By this stairway narrow, steep,
Thou shalt climb from song to sleep;
From sleep to dream and song once more; —
Sleep well, sweet friend, sleep well, dream deep!
