Dreunt door mijn trotsche lichaam als een hamer,
Kloppende-òp uit haar donker-kille kamer
Wellust, die sliep, op 't wekkings-uur aandachtig.
 
O, - genieten, ineengestrengeld prachtig,
Droomend zoo schoon met aangenaam gestamer,
Even tusschen kus en kus, àl eenzamer
Nachten gesmacht, een bangen droom, gedachtig.
 
Droom-schoone dood en onsterfelijk verlangen,
Pracht van te vatte' en te voele' in vaste armen
Schoonheid, gedrukt aan 't luid-bewogen harte, -
 
Pracht van elkaar al vlammende te omvangen,
Zaligheid doende in sprakeloos erbarmen,
Zaligheid zelve in de opvlucht aller smarte.
