Sieben Lieder

by Hans Koessler (1853 - 1926)

4. Der Pfarrer
 (Sung text)

Language: German (Deutsch)
Noch schimmert durch das Fenster
  Der Pfarrer-Wohnung Licht;
Das ganze Dörfchen schlummert,
  Allein der Pred'ger nicht.

Er sitzet vor der Bibel,
  Und trocknet mit dem Tuch
Gar manche volle Thräne,
  Die niederrollt auf's Buch.

Daneben in der Kammer,
  Als Leiche hingestreckt,
Ruht seine einz'ge Tochter,
  Vom Leichentuch bedeckt.

Er hebt die weiße Hülle
  Mit thränenvollem Blick,
Und küßt die kalte Stirne,
  Und schleichet still zurück.

Text Authorship:

  • by Franz Bernhard Heinrich Wilhelm, Freiherr von Gaudy (1800 - 1840), "Das Trauerhaus", appears in Lyrische Gedichte
