4. Hooper’s Inle  [sung text not yet checked]

Language: English
With naked eyes. Touch
wake
wake again.

Hills and their reflections
in uncanny winter's calm:

the silhouettes of hills hold still in shallows
where now & again a heron flaps up
in a streamlined shape

or there passes a vee of wild ducks
wingtipping the water.

solo birds, liquid & reedy,

the water moving very gently its reflections sideways
shirrs & slips into rippling lines

the flank of a hillside
wavers and breaks

and a million droplets of sky dance & settle again
into mercury.

harmonics, harmonies,
dynamics, melodies

Dead calm.
Splash.
A grey heron rises

In the silence,
in the bareness,

Its wings beat out over the water.
