Einer welken Rose gleicht die Sonne, 
Müd und matt senkt sie ihr Haupt herab
Und wie Blätter fallen ihre Strahlen
Bleich und trübe lächelnd von ihr ab.

Stumm ist ring umher die Welt und stille,
Aus der Ferne tönt vernehmlich kaum
Eine Glocke, klingt wie aus dem Himmel
Oder wie aus einem süßen Traum.

Tief versunken lausch' ich ihrem Sange,
Der so wundersam mein Herz ergreift.
Weiß der Himmel, was ich da empfinde
Und wo sinnend meine Seele schweist.
