View text with all available footnotesNote: the words above, attributed to "Anon.", appear as one of three brief quotations at the top of Chapter IV of in James Fitzmaurice-Kelly's The Life of Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra: A Biographical, Literary, and Historical Study with a Tentative Bibliography from 1585 to 1892, and An Annotated Appendix on the Canto de Calíope, London, Chapman and Hall, 1892, p. 71. This may be why the text is credited to "J.F.Kelly" in White's song. It is not known yet whether this is the entire sung text.
