by Eduard (Freiherr von Czeike) von Badenfeld (1800 - 1860), as Eduard Silesius

Mondnachtliedchen
Language: German (Deutsch)
Alles öd' in tiefster Nacht,
nur der liebe Vater wacht.
Wie sein Auge mild und traut
auf die Kinder niederschaut!

Mond, du Vaterauge du,
Müden spende Trost und Ruh'!
Kranken blinke Hoffnungschein
in das sieche Herz hinein!

Helle mild des Wand'rers Pfad,
wenn er sich dem Abgrund naht!
Strahle hell, wo scheu und still
der Verbrecher schleichen will.

Leuchte sanft mit feuchtem Blick
reiner Liebe stillem Glück,
streuend matten Dämmerschein
ins verhängte Fensterlein.
