Also confirmed with Liederbuch des Deutschen Volkes, herausgegeben von Carl Hase, Felix Dahn und Carl Reinecke, Neue Auslage, Leipzig, Druck und Verlag von Breitkopf und Härtel, 1883, page 336, no. 596, titled "Die Getrennte". In this edition, no author name is indicated but most of the other texts do have author attributions. The text is not shown with line breaks: each stanza is given as a block of prose. Loewe's score attributes "Gerstenberg" as the author, and some have speculated this to be Friedrich von Gerstenberg, who according to many sources, published a volume of poetry in 1851. Note: Loewe's text was also quoted without attribution by Johanna Schopenhauer in the novel Gabriele: ein roman, volume 2, 1825; this could explain the misattribution in the score of Binzer's song.
