Language: German (Deutsch)
Ein blinder Mann, ein armer Mann!
Ach, schauet meinen Vater an,
wie er gebückt und zitternd steht!
Sein Haupt, vom grauen Haar umweht,
und seiner Harfe Klage fleht:
Erbarmet euch!

Sein Auge kennt des Tages Licht,
den Glanz der Abendröte nicht,
sieht nicht die Träne, die ihm fließt,
die Hand nicht, die sein Leid versüßt,
den Blick nicht, der ihn freundlich grüßt.
Erbarmet euch!

Erbarmet euch des Vaters Not,
bald rufet uns ein sanfter Tod
ins Himmelreich; dann strahlet Licht
in meines Vaters Angesicht.
Verlasst den armen Vater nicht,
Erbarmet euch!
