Streich aus, mein Roß, die Flanken hoch! Die Meute bellt, es klingt das Horn, Der Tag ist wild, doch wilder noch Dein Reiter; Es treibt durch Schnee, Gestrüpp und Dorn Ihn rastlos, ruhlos weiter. Ich habe getrunken einen Trank, Lieb' heißt der Trank, und der war heiß. Davon bin ich geworden krank Im Herzen. Mir will nicht kühlen Winters Eis Noch scharfer Sturm die Schmerzen. Drum rasch, als könnt' ich fliehn mein Weh! Was schiert's mich, wenn die Sonn' entwich! Schon färbt des Hirschen Schweiß den Schnee Der Heide; Ich jage das Wild, die Liebe mich, Bis wir erliegen beide.
