Mutter und Kind

Language: German (Deutsch)
Lieb Mutter, was leuchtet so golden und klar
Des Schwesterchens dunkles Augenpaar?

So leuchten die goldnen Kugeln kaum
In heiliger Christnacht am Tannenbaum.

»Dass Schwesterchens Augen so leuchtend sind,
»Das macht die Liebe, mein liebes Kind!

»Sie blickt heraus, sie blickt hinein
»Und giebt dem Auge den goldnen Schein.«

Ich liebe dich, Mutter! O sieh doch schnell,
Sind meine Augen jetzt auch so hell?

»Ja, hell wie Gold!« Und die deinen gar,
Liebe Mutter, die sind wie die Sonne so klar.
