Und wird mein Leben früh zunichte,
ich trag' es, wie es Gott gefällt;
ach, nur vom gold'nen Sonnenlichte
scheid' ich so schwer, nicht von der Welt.

Doch manchmal träumt's mir, scheu und leise,
als blieb' ich doch im Sonnenstrahl:
Es singt der Wand'rer meine Weise,
wenn er vom Hochland zieht zu Tal.

Und Minneglanz im Angesichte
spricht noch mein Wort die Bergmaid nach;
so leb' ich doch - im Sonnenlichte!
Und längst entschlafen bin ich wach.
