by August Heinrich Hoffmann von Fallersleben (1798 - 1874)

Das Heimatland
(Sung text for setting by C. Banck)
 See original
Language: German (Deutsch)
Der Kranich ruft kuruh!
Und fliegt dem Süden zu.
Wo Sommer weilt, da hält er Stand,
Da sucht er stets sein Vaterland:
     Kirrgorr kuruh!

Was siehst Du an das Laub?
Bald wird es Erd' und Staub.
Was irdisch ist, hat nie Bestand,
Die Sehnsucht sucht ein bessres Land.
     Kirrgorr kuruh!
Confirmed with Gedichte von Hoffmann von Fallersleben, Leipzig, Weidmann'sche Buchhandlung, 1843, page 184

Composition:

Set to music by Carl Banck (1809 - 1889), "Das Heimatland", op. 12a (1826) [ voice and piano ], note: another publisher used opus 12 for a set of seven songs so we have added the letter 'a' to this opus

Text Authorship:

  • by August Heinrich Hoffmann von Fallersleben (1798 - 1874), "Auf dem Kirchhofe im Herbste"
