Lasst die Nachtigallen klagen
 (Sung text for setting by F. Lachner)
 Matches base text
Language: German (Deutsch)
Lasst die Nachtigallen klagen
und verkünden ihren Schmerz;
ach, wir wollen sie nicht fragen,
welches Leid erfüllt ihr Herz.
Mögen sie's in Seufzern sagen
und den Lüften anvertrau'n,
dass sie's zu den Sternen tragen,
die vom Himmel niederschau'n.

Unser Lied soll heit'rer klingen
als das Lied der Nachtigall,
einer frohen Brust entringen
soll sich munt'rer Freude Schall,
und zum Liebchen soll er dringen,
zu den Sternen nicht empor;
von der Liebe Glück zu singen,
stimmet ein im lauten Chor!
