Ermunterung
 (Sung text for setting by K. Reissiger)
 See original
Language: German (Deutsch)
Unser Leben, sagen Weise,
Sei ein kurzer Morgentraum;
Andre sagen, eine Reise,
Ja nur einer Welle Schaum.

Ist es leichter Schaum der Welle,
Die der Zeiten Lauf verschlingt,
Sei Champagner-Wein die Quelle,
Der sich dieser Schaum entschwingt.

Ist das Leben eine Reise,
Nehmt die leicht'sten Wagen nur,
Folget auf dem flachsten Gleise
Immer des Vergnügens Spur.

In der Lieb' und Freundschaft Armen
Träumt des Lebens kurzen Traum;
Glückt es euch so zu erwarmen,
Sel'ger ist das Wachen kaum.

Composition:

    Set to music by Karl Gottlieb Reissiger (1798 - 1859), "Ermunterung", op. 73 no. 5, stanzas 1-4 [ TTBB chorus ], from Gesellschaftslieder, no. 5, note: the song is strophic, using two stanzas as one unit, so although the last two stanzas were not used by the composer, they could probably be sung

Text Authorship:

  • by Ernst Wolfgang Behrisch (1738 - 1809), "Gesellschaftslied"
