Zu knospen freun sich die Bäume schon lang,
Zu grünen die Matten am sonnigen Hang,
O Frühling, was willst du noch säumen?
Schon singen und jubeln die Vöglein im Chor,
Schon lauscht aus dem Hage das Veilchen hervor,
Hervor mit seligem Träumen. 

Zu flattern freun sich die Weste schon lang,
Wie rauscht's in den Wipfeln so sehnsuchtsbang!
Ei, hast du's, Lenz nicht vernommen?
Schon lächelt so hold aus dem Wolkenzelt
Die Sonne hernieder auf Wald und Feld,
Was zauderst du länger, zu kommen? 

Zu jauchzen freun sich die Menschen schon lang,
Schon klingen im Herzen mit wonnigem Drang
Die alten fröhlichen Weisen!
O komm denn, o komme, du herrliche Zeit! 
O komm denn, o komme! die Welt ist bereit, 
Zu grüßen dich, Lenz, und zu preisen!
