Dammi il sopore
(Sung text for setting by J. Benoni)
 Matches base text
Language: Italian (Italiano)
Dammi il sopore,
dammi il dormir,
ei dolci sogni
dell' avenir.

Ombre notturne
mi stanno innante,
rendon mia vita
triste e pesante.

Sol da lontano
l'alba m'appare,
solo nel sogno
posso obliare.

Vita, il tuo corso
fummi un lagnor;
donami i sogni,
dammi il sopor!

Note: this text comes from a collection of handwritten copies of Lieder by several composers; it is subtitled "Musica da Giulio Benoni". The title "Romance" was added in pencil by another hand, but we are not sure how authoritative this title is so we have left it titled "Dammi il sopore". We have also corrected a typo in stanza 3, line 3, word 3 : the word is written "sono" in the manuscript.

Composition:

Set to music by Julius Benoni (1833 - 1870), "Dammi il sopore"
