Trockne Thränen
 (Sung text for setting by H. Proch)
 Matches original text
Language: German (Deutsch)
Hab' einst wie alle Welt gemeint,
nur Tränen künden Schmerzen;
wohl dem, der mit den Augen weint,
ich weine mit dem Herzen.
Weil trocken bleibt mein Angesicht,
mich viele ruhig wähnen;
die Glücklichen! Sie kennen nicht
die Marter trock'ner Tränen!

Composition:

    Set to music by Heinrich Proch (1809 - 1878), "Trockne Thränen", op. 41 no. 1, published 1838 [ voice and piano ], Wien, Diabelli und Co.

Text Authorship:

  • by Joseph Stierle-Holzmeister (1781 - 1848), "Die trock'nen Tränen", appears in Gesammelte humoristische Erzählungen und Gedichte, first published 1844
