Il Gondoliere
Language: Italian (Italiano)
Ecco l'ora, bruno è il cielo,
tutto dorme, o giovinetta;
scendi, scendi, ove t'aspetta
il fedele golndolier.

Te trarrà lontano
l'agil barca sovra l'onda,
fin che l'eco della sponda
più non giunga al gondolier.

Ed allor sostando il remo
ti dirà quant' ore ha spese
nel desio di che l'accese
l'amoroso gondolier.

La vedeva, nome e stato,
simulava per lei sola,
e un sorriso, una parola
sol le chiede il gondolier.

Non temere, testimoni
non hai tu che il ciel e l'onda,
muto l'eco della sponda
più non giunge al gondolier.

Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Italian (Italiano)
Mädchen, komm in meinen Nachen,
alles schlummert nah' und ferne,
freundlich winken uns die Sterne,
deiner harrt der Gondolier.

Auf den glatten Wellen
wiegt dich sanft der kleine Nachen,
nur der Liebe Augen wachen;
komm zu deinem Gondolier!

Lauschen sollst du seinem Liede,
das dir kündet all sein Sehnen,
wie in Freude und in Tränen
stets dich liebt der Gondolier.

Komm, o komme, holdes Mädchen,
der ich weih' mein ganzes Leben;
dir allein nur, dir ergeben
ist der treue Gondolier.

Nimmer fürchte fremde Späher,
nur der Himmel sieht uns beide.
Komm, du meines Herzens Freude,
komm zu deinem Gondolier!

Composition:

    Set to music by Heinrich Proch (1809 - 1878), no title, op. 126, published 1845, Wien, Diabelli und Co., also set in Italian (Italiano)
