Die Einsame
(Sung text for setting by C. Kreutzer)
 See original
Language: German (Deutsch)
Wenn ich klage, wenn ich weine,
fragt mich nicht, warum!
Jedes Vöglein singt im Haine,
was es suche, was es meine;
doch mein Schmerz ist stumm.

Such' ich Nacht und Waldesschweigen,
folgt mir - folgt mir nicht!
Engel mild sich zu mir neigen,
doch nur meinen Blicken zeigen,
was der Brust gebricht.

Lasst mich einsam sein im Leben,
einsam wie im Schmerz,
Denkt, wenn Freuden euch umschweben:
Schlumm're, schlumm're nur daneben,
du zerriss'nes Herz!

Composition:

Set to music by Conradin Kreutzer (1780 - 1849), "Die Einsame", op. 80, Heft 2 (Sechs Lieder aus der Ferne von Andreas Schumacher) no. 5
