Never, oh nevermore! shall I behold
 (Sung text for setting by O. Dresel)
 Matches base text
Language: English
Never, oh nevermore! shall I behold
Thy form so fair;
Or loosen from its braids the rippling gold
Of thy long hair.

Never, oh, nevermore! shall I be blest
By thy voice low,
Or kiss, while thou art sleeping on my breast,
Thy marble brow.

Never, oh nevermore! shall I inhale
Thy fragrant sighs,
Or gaze, with fainting soul, upon the veil
Of thy bright eyes.

Composition:

    Set to music by Otto Dresel (1826 - 1890), "Never, oh nevermore! shall I behold", 1883

Text Authorship:

  • by Frances Anne Kemble, née Butler (1809 - 1893), "Song", from Poems. By Frances Anne Butler, first published 1844
