Ein Vögelein den Winter lang
(Sung text for setting by E. Zumsteeg)
 Matches base text
Language: German (Deutsch)
Ein Vögelein den Winter lang
War in Gefangenschaft.
Oft machte Schmerz ihn weh und bang,
Nur Hoffnung gab ihm Kraft,
Daß nach dem Winter wiederkehrt
Die holde Frühlingszeit.
Erfahrung hat ihn das gelehrt,
Drum hofft's ob's stürmt und schneit.
Sooft ein klarer Sonnenblick
Die Wolken treibt entzwei,
Geht himmelan des Vögleins Blick
In Hoffnung, froh und frei.
Es stärke stets des Schwachen Mut
Bei aller Erdennot
Er, der allein weiß, was ihm gut,
Sein treuer Herr und Gott.
