de engel kwam hem wekken uit zijne slaap :
» Sta op, sta op, sint Jozef zoet, Ik kom u wekken
en gij moet vertrekken met Maria rein !

Zij steeg op het ezelke, vol van gezuchten,
zo van rouw en smart en dat doorstak haar hart :
De hagel en de kou, de wind haar kweld' !
Het water viel zo dapper op het naakte veld, ach
Maria tsaart !

Zij reden op een ezeltje, van falderalde riere !
