Sei still dem Herrn
 (Sung text for setting by M. Hauptmann)
 Matches original text
Language: German (Deutsch)
Sei still dem Herrn, und wart' auf ihn,
Verbarg er auch sein Angesicht:
Und ob vor Leid das Herz dir bricht,
Den Glauben dein, verwirf ihn nicht!

O warte! Bald tritt er herein,
In seiner ganzen Freundlichkeit;
Wie flieht in seinem Gruße weit,
Und kehrt in Freude sich die Pein!

Du aber sinkst zur Erde hin,
Und rufst beschämt: "Mein Gott und Herr!"
Und glaubst und zweifelst nimmermehr;
So sei ihm still und wart' auf ihn!
