Lettre d'adieu
Language: French (Français)
J'ai reçu ta lettre d'adieu ;
J'ai lu et relu peu à peu
Sans un soupir, sans une plainte,
Les mots affreux qui cependant,
Tout au fond de mon coeur saignant,
Résonnaient comme un glas qui tinte !

Et le beau papier de couleur,
Le papier imprégné d'odeur
Où s'étalait ton écriture,
Dans le brasier je l'ai jeté
Pour qu'à jamais fût effacé
Le vestige de ton injure.

Déjà la flamme anéantit
Ce billet, ce billet maudit...
Mais voici toute ma tendresse
Qui se réveille et me reprend...
Et ta lettre, eh bien! maintenant
Je la couvrirais de caresses.
