by Vincenzo Monti (1754 - 1828)

Canzonetta
Language: Italian (Italiano)
Fin chè l'età ne invita,
cerchiamo di goder,
l'instante del piacer.
Passa è non torna.
Grave divien la vita
se non se cogli il fior,
di fresche rose
Amor solo sia dorna.

A che ti v al, mia Cara,
Del cuor la libertà?
Codesta vanità,
Ben mio, disdice.
I nostri cuori a gara
Facciamo palpitar,
Chi sà costante amar,
Quegli è felice.

Caggion d’affanni e pianti
Si crede Amor, lo sò;
Tu non pensarlo, nò;
Sgombra il sospetto.
Tra due fedeli amanti
Tutto divien gioir,
Nè destasi un sospir
Senza diletto.

Più bella sei, più devi
Voti ad Amor, e fè;
Altro beltà non è
Che un suo tributo.
Amiam, chè i dì son brevi
Un giorno senz’ amor
È giorno di dolor,
Giorno perduto.
