Am Strome
Language: German (Deutsch)
Einst in abendlicher Stille
Hab' ich dieser Flut gelauscht,
Die in goldbeschäumter Fülle
Durch das Thal zur Tiefe rauscht.

Zitternd wie im Sturm bewegte
Sich das Rohr am grünen Strand --
Auf des Träumers Stirne legte
Fromm sich eine liebe Hand.

Schöne Zeit, du kehrst nicht wieder;
Heiß wie Flammen zuckt's herauf,
Wühl' ich mit dem Hauch der Lieder
Meines Herzens Asche auf.

Confirmed with Frühlingsgrüße. Lieder von Lenz und Liebe, Freud' und Leid, ed. by Dr. Karl Zettel, Stuttgart: Greiner & Pfeiffer, 1899, page 27.
