Wenn ihm die Angel brennt im Silberleibe,
Und wird der Falk' an scharfem Pfeile wund,
Sorgt er im Horst, wie ihm der Fittich bleibe.

Es zieht der Hirsch zum allertiefsten Wald,
Die Todesqual und noch das Lebenshoffen
Im stummen Aug', dieweil das Hifthorn schallt -
Wo zieht der Mensch hin, der zu Tod' getroffen?!
