Dem lade jag i vaggan,

ej hvita, bara röda,
Dem satte jag i hjälmen 
när du drog ut i kriget för fosterland att blöda.

Tre rosor har jag plockat,
tre hvita, inga röda,
Dem har jag lagt på kullen,
där djupt inunder mullen du hvilar med de döda.
