by Giovanni Bertati (1735 - 1815)

Perdonate, signor mio
Language: Italian (Italiano)
Perdonate, signor mio,
s'io vi lascio, e fo partenza.
Io per essere eccellenza
non mi sento volontà.
Tanto onore è riservato
a chi ha un merto singolare,
a chi in circolo sa stare
con buon garbo e gravità.
Io, meschina, vo alla buona,
io cammino alla carlona,
son piccina di statura,
io non ho disinvoltura,
non ho lingue, non so niente;
farei torto certamente
alla vostra nobiltà.
Se un mi parla alla francese,
che volete ch'io risponda?
Non so dire che Monsiù.
Se qualcuno mi parla inglese,
ben convien ch'io mi confonda,
non intendo che Addidù.
Se poi vien qualche tedesco,
vuol star fresco, oh, vuol star fresco!
Non intendo una parola:
sono infatti una figliuola
di buon fondo, e niente più.
