Der Gedanke

Auf tiefstem Grunde meiner dunklen Seele,
da ruhte ein Gedanke;
dass er nicht wanke,
behütete ich ihn, pflegt' ihn ohne Fehle!
Wie viele Monde, Jahre sind vergangen!
In Freude wie in Leide
liebkosten wir uns beide,
wenn Welt und Schicksal uns zu weinen zwangen.
Und dennoch wagt' ich es, zu glauben und zu hoffen,
dass du mein dachtest,
mich nicht verachtest!
Nun hast du den Gedanken, ihn entdeckend,
hold ihn weckend
durch deinen Blick, mich selber tief getroffen!
