Immer in der Ferne schweift des Menschen Blick,
in dem Kreis der Sterne wähnt er oft sein Glück.
Namenloses Sehnen zieht ihn immerfort,
immer klagen Tränen: Hier ist nicht der Ort.

Frühlinge entschweben reich an jeder Lust,
nicht genügend geben Freuden sie der Brust.
Ach, die Blüten fallen allzu schnell hinab,
diesen Freuden allen harrt ein frühes Grab.

Was der Erd' entblühet, stirbt im Lauf der Zeit,
doch die Seele glühet nur für Ewigkeit.
Ewig muss es währen, was uns stillen kann,
wohl! wir all gehören einem Himmel an!
