by Karsten Runge (1830 - 1865)

Die beiden Rosen
Language: German (Deutsch)
Es blühen zwei Rosen am blauen See,
Umgeben von Wonne und Freude --
Die eine auf sonniger Bergeshöh',
Die and're auf schattiger Weide.

Doch öde sind ihnen Thäler und Höh'n;
Es qälen sie seltsame Schmerzen.
O könnte ich neben der Schwester steh'n!
Denkt jede mit traurigem Herzen.

Da brauset ein kreisender Wirbel herbei
Und wirft sie weit in die Fluthen!
Da herzen die Beiden sich innig und treu;
Beisammen sie  --  freudig verbluten.

Confirmed with Karsten Runge, Sänger-Wallfahrt: Gedichte, Altona: A. Mentzel, 1861, page 67. Appears in Vermischte Gedichte.
