Ihr glücklichen Stunden

Ihr glücklichen Stunden vergangener Tage,  
Ihr seligen Bilder entschwundener Zeit! 
Da in's Aug' ich ihm sah, da erglühend mich küsste, 
Wie seid ihr mir nahe, und doch wie so weit!  

Noch jetzt, da des Schicksals vernichtende Geister 
Zerstörten, was einst mir geblüht und gelacht, 
Umschwebt ihr mich hold, schau' ich weinend und betend 
Hinaus in die dunkle und trübe Nacht!  

Da winkt mir ein Sternlein!  O Bild süsser Ahnung!  
Du führst ihn an meine hochjauchzende Brust, 
Und er küsst mich wie einst, und ich schau' ihm in's Auge, 
Und wein' und vergehe in himmlischer Lust.
