Hafenruhe

Ich stand auf hohem Schiffe; an lachenden Ufern frei, am schroffen Felsenriffe flog es wie Sturm vorbei. An grünenden Inselauen selbst hatt' es nicht Rast und Ruh'; es eilte den fernen, blauen, den heimischen Bergen zu. Nun sitz' ich daheim im Hafen und darf, wenn die Woge lind das Ufer umplätschert, darf schlafen, wie einst ich schlief als Kind. Doch wo sind die Kinderträume, die Zauberbilder der Brust, der Kindheit Feenbäume mit ihrer Blütenlust? Sie müssen, vom Sturme zersplittert, zerstreut in die Lüfte sein; dort, weit in der Ferne, zittert nur schwach noch ein Widerschein. D'rum fort aus dem nüchternen Hafen! Willkomm' mir, Wogen und Wind! Ich kann ja nicht mehr schlafen, wie einst ich schlief als Kind. Mich hat das Leben ergriffen; mit Sturm und Woge vertraut will ich es mutig durchschiffen, bis meine Scheitel ergraut. Bis spät versenkt im Hafen die letzten Anker sind; dann werd' ich auch wieder schlafen und träumen wie einst als Kind.
