Wär' ich der Baum bei an deinem Kämmerlein,
ich würfe die Blüten ins Fenster hinein
und pocht' an die Scheiben, erst leise, dann laut,
wenn gold'nes Frührot ins Fenster dir schaut.

Wär' ich die Rose im kühlen Hain,
erblüht' ich erst bei deiner Augen Schein
und fiele süß duftend in deinen Schoß
und priese verwelkend mein seliges Los!

Ach wär' ich lieber der Liebste dein,
dann schaut' ich nicht bloß ins Kämmerlein;
ich hielt' dich, du Rose, an meiner Brust
und lebte und glühte in Sehnsucht und Lust!
