Holdes Kind, zu plötzlich uns entwunden!
Süßes Knäblein, uns zu früh geraubt!
Flogen nicht gleich wenig kurzen Stunden
deine Lebenstage über unser Haupt?

Immer noch entzückt aus deinen Zügen
diese Anmut mich und Harmonie,
an die Mutter seh' ich noch dich schmiegen,
noch dich lehnen an der Mutter Knie.

Seh' noch immer, Kind, dein Auge offen,
diesen Himmel, d'raus ein Engel blickt,
und zermalmt im Keim war unser Hoffen;
zarte Ros', als Knosp' warst du gepflückt!
