Die Abendglocke klingt vom nahen Turme schon, und übers Wasser dringt ein weicher Klageton. Sie tönt den Tag zur Ruh'; nun eilen dem Altar die frommen Beter zu, wo kniet der Pilger Schar. Süß träumt es sich im Kahn, das Ruder in der Hand, indes die Töne nah'n her vom geweihten Land. Es ist der Pilger Chor, ihr heilig Abendlied; zu Gott strebt es empor, der liebend alles sieht.
