Sie ist's, die dich Gott näher bringt,
Religion, die dich durchdringt.

Wenn in der Tugend reinem Streben
Dein Sinn sich ab vom Eitlen lenkt;
Wenn heil'ge Triebe dich durchbeben,
In ihren Strom dein Herz sich senkt:
Sie ist's, sie rühret dein Gemüth,
Religion, die in dir glüht.

Wenn Nacht und Grau'n dein Aug' umhüllte,
Sie war's, die tröstend dir genaht, 
Mit Muth und Glauben dich erfüllte,
Erleuchtend deinen dunkeln Pfad: 
Sie ist's, die dich der Erd' entrückt, 
Zur Seligkeit den Geist entzückt.

Confirmed with Gebetbuch in Liedern, herausgegeben von Karl Steiger, St. Gallen, Verlag von Scheitlin und Zollikoser, 1846, pages 9-10. The poem is attributed only to "Schreiber", but based on the attribution of a very similar poem to Christian Schreiber in the alternative text listed below, we believe this is also by Christian Schreiber.
