by Börries Albrecht Conon August Heinrich, Freiherr von Münchhausen (1874 - 1945)

Sodoms Ruinen
Language: German (Deutsch)
Oben am Berge ziehen
dunkel die Wolken dahin,
von Dibon bis zum Atharot-Teich
wallen und wogen die Nebel bleich
über die Stätte von Sodom.

Von fern rauscht plätschernd die Woge
des Salzmeers eintönig hin,
drunten unter dem feuchten Gras
liegen die Söhne Helvilas,
liegen die Trümmer von Sodom.

Zerbroch'ne Säulen und Stufen,
Scherben von Becher und Krug;
der Geier, der droben den Fittich spannt,
nie berührt er je das verfluchte Land,
die verfluchte Stätte von Sodom.
