Jag hade en vän, han var mig så kär,
han gaf mig ett löfte att trogen bli.
Men löftet var falskt, jag bortglömd nu är,
båd' vänskap och kärlek, allt är förbi.

En längtan så varm, så innerligt öm,
jag hyste i själen och i mitt bröst.
O, kunde jag än dig se i min dröm
för mig hvilken ljuf och lindrande tröst.

Farväl vännen min. Ack, tänk blott en gång
på henne hvars hjärta du krossat har.
Min känsla var ren, den tolkats i sång.
Glöm aldrig att den min solstråle var.
