Från blodiga slagtfält jag kommer så trött,
jag lullat de tappre till ro.
Valkyrior blommor på kämparne strött,
de rida på Bifrost bro
till Valhallas fester, till Gudarnes fröjd.
Men qvar sitter Barden af åren böjd
Så tyst! det hviskar i Skogen om hänsvunna dar,
då älskad och ung han var.

Välkomna små Elfvor, jag känner er väl,
I dansen tills strängarnes lek.
Som lefvande toner I smeken min själ,
I gören mig blödig och vek.
Som skyarne svepa kring solen sitt flor,
I svalken det qval som i hjertat bor.
Så tyst det hviskar i Skogen om hänsvunna dar,
då älskad och ung han var.
