Der scheidende Geselle
Language: German (Deutsch)
Chosen for Diff
Lebet wohl, Gesellen alle,
da ich nun die Stadt verlass'!
Während ich den Bündel schnalle,
werden mir die Augen nass.
Einen Ring an Mund ich drücke;
dieses macht mich weich:
Meinen Schatz lass' ich zurücke
und wand're einsam durch das Reich.

Wie der reiche Meister lärmte,
als er uns're Lieb' entdeckt,
und, was uns am tiefsten härmte,
sie mit reichen Freiern schreckt!
Hinterm Laden, welches Leiden,
weint sie stumm und bleich.
Lebe wohl, ich muss ja scheiden
und wand're einsam durch das Reich.

Arm bin ich von je gewesen,
jetzo bin ich ganz verarmt;
krank bin ich, kann nie genesen,
dass es einen Stein erbarmt.
Käm' der Tod und nähm' die Schmerzen,
da sind alle gleich;
doch dein Bild trag' ich im Herzen
und wand're stille durch das Reich.
