Das öde Haus
Language: German (Deutsch)
Chosen for Diff
Habt ihr im tiefen Walde
das öde Haus geseh'n?
Einst sah ich eine Hütte
an seiner Stelle steh'n.

Im Abendsonnenscheine
saß hier ein alter Mann.
Mit stolzem Dienertrosse
ein Reiter kam heran.

„Heraus, du träger Schuldner,
der ganze Raum ist mein!“
„Ach, Herr, mein Weib wird sterben,
ach, Herr, erbarmt euch mein!“

„Heraus, im Walde draußen
ist Raum genug zum Tod!“
Da folgten still die Alten
dem harten Machtgebot.

Sie schwankten durch den tiefen,
den menschenleeren Wald;
es rauschten Sturm und Regen,
die Nacht war schwarz und kalt.

Sie kehrten nicht mehr wieder,
stumm lag des Waldes Graus;
hoch aus der morschen Hütte
stieg auf ein stolzes Haus.

Im Kreise üpp'ger Gäste
ging's hoch und herrlich her.
Der Hausherr sagte keinem,
dass er zufrieden wär'.

Denn nächtlich an der Pforte,
da klopft' es zitternd an;
zwei bleiche Schatten schwebten
d'rauf um den reichen Mann.

Da klang's wie Klag' und Bitte
durch Zimmer, Trepp' und Saal
am goldgestickten Lager
bis zu dem Morgenstrahl.

So klang's vor seinem Ohre,
wo er auch stand und ging;
ein toter Mann am Morgen
einst an der Pforte hing.

Habt ihr im tiefen Walde
das öde Haus geseh'n?
's geht jeder still vorüber,
wagt nicht hineinzugeh'n.

Confirmed with Gedichte von August Kahlert, Breslau, 1864.
