Abendgesang an meine Mutter
Language: German (Deutsch)
In Purpurgluten lischt der Tag
und geht zu seiner Ruh',
und leise decket Lust und Plag'
die braune Dämm'rung zu.
Das Leben, noch vom Schweiß fast warm,
sinkt matt der Mutter in den Arm.
Schlaf süß!

Vom fernen Walde tönt Gesang
so heimlich still und traut,
wie leis' gedämpfter Bienenklang
und zarter Harfenlaut.
Das ist der Liebe Weiheton,
die lockt zur süßen Feier schon.
Schlaf süß!

Die ihr getragen hart und schwer
des Tages Hitz' und Last,
umringt vom schwarzen Sorgenheer,
vom tiefen Weh' erfasst:
In Mohnduft rinnt der Gram dahin,
ein holder Traum klärt Brust und Sinn!
Schlaf süß!

Geht, Engel, weht mit heil'ger Hand
den Zauber reiner Ruh'
und drückt, den sel'gen Höh'n entsandt,
die müden Augen zu
und flüstert Friedenstraum und Lust
in jede wundgedrückte Brust!
Schlaf süß!
