La viola
Language: Italian (Italiano)
Dal mazzolino che portavo in petto
Una sera mi cadde una viola.
Passava, appunto, un bruno giovinetto
Che la raccolse senza far parola.
Mi guardò, la baciò, la pose in seno
Con un sospiro di mestizia pieno.
Quel bacio e quel sospir mi scese al core
E mi costrinse a sospirar d'amore;
Quel guardo, quel sospir rammento ognora
E da quel giorno in poi sospiro ancora.

Da quella sera non l'ho piú veduto;
Né alcuno mi sa dir cosa ne sia.
Fors'egli è nell'avel gelido e muto
Ed ha sul core la viola mia
O, crudel, mi lasciò per altro amore
Non ricordando me ed il mio fiore?
Oh! S'egli è morto vo' morire anch'io
E riavrò il mio fiore in grembo a Dio;
Ma s'egli vive ed arde ad altra face,
Che mi renda il mio fiore e la mia pace!
