The star of gold
Language: English
The silv'ry stars in heaven tell their lore Of worlds that pass unto a boundless shore In pale, supernal light All through the night A star of blue upon a field of snow, Hemm'd in by bands of deepest crimson glow, A brave man's deed displays Through many waning days What is the grim but glorious story told By that same star when it is turn'd to gold? It proves a brave man's proudest sacrifice, It proves that man has pay'd the highest price To set the world for ever free ; And through eternity That golden star will shine afar; Oh, star of gold!
