Regnet risslar, regnet susar, marken andas, och ur djupen ångar det av fuktig mull. Och jag går och hör på regnet tills det känns som gråt i strupen blott för regnets skull. Goda, kära regn, som låter jorden dricka livets vatten, tills av lycka allting gråter i den ljumma natten! Jag vill falla ned på knä och famna allt det unga, späda, som i natt får liv och gror, och jag nänns knappt mer beträda med min tunga stövel jorden, allt det ungas mor.
