by Stefán Sigurðsson (1887 - 1933)

Nið(ur)
Language: Icelandic (Íslenska)
Sólin blessuð sígur rauð til viðar,
glóa á lofti gullin ský,
grátklökk áin niðar.

Haustið nálgast, hríð og vetrarrosinn,
senn er ekki sólar von,
senn er áin frosin.

Lóan horfin, lokið söngvafulli,
rökkvar hér, en suðræn sól
sveipar hana gulli.

Ógnar myrkrið oss á norðurströndum,
innra grætur óðfús þrá
eftir suðurlöndum.

Eigum vér þá aðeins myrkar nætur,
enga fró né innri hvíld,
engar raunabætur?

Himinn yfir. Huggast þú, sem grætur.
Stjörnur tindra, geislar guðs,
gegnum vetrarnætur.

Vetrarnóttin varla mun oss saka,
fyrst að ljósin ofan að
yfir mönnum vaka.
