Min Elskede danser i Sale i Nat!
Gud ved, hvor det er, jeg gaar;
det skinner af Sol og Maane,
det regner gennem mit Haar.

Der spilles saa vildt og lystigt i Nat,
og Kvinder danser sig øre.
Det er, som min Elskedes Aandepust
jeg kunde i Bladene høre.

Jeg kender til Længsel, jeg kender til Sorg,
jeg ved, hvad det er at forbløde.
Min Elskede danser sig bort i Nat!
Gud ved, naar jeg skal hende møde!

Her skinner af Maane, her tindrer af Sol!
Og alle de Nattergale!
Min Elskede bøjer sit Hoved hedt
og lytter til fremmedes Tale —
            Min Elskede danser i Sale!
